  1. Magnetic tape is a narrow plastic ribbon 
  2. coated with an easily magnetizable material 
  3. on which data can be recorded. It is used in 
  4. sound recording, audiovisual systems 
  5. (videotape), and computing. For mass storage 
  6. on commercial mainframe computers, large 
  7. reel-to-reel tapes are still used, but 
  8. cartridges are coming in. Various types of 
  9. cartridge are now standard on minis and PCs, 
  10. while audio cassettes are sometimes used with 
  11. home computers.
